Clearing a flat after a death or an inheritance — how it works

Clearing the home of someone close is a difficult situation, often full of emotion and haste. We try to take as much of that weight off our clients as we can. Here is how the process works with us and what is worth knowing.

Where we start

We arrange to view the flat, or ask for photos, so we can assess the scope and give you a price. There's no need for you to sort or carry anything beforehand — we'll handle that. All you need to do is show us what stays and what we take.

What happens to the belongings

We separate items into those to be kept and those for disposal. Anything that still has value or is fit for use can be set aside. Furniture, equipment and everything unwanted we carry out, haul away and pass on for legal disposal. If anything of value turns up, we can deduct it from the price.

Documents and personal items

Clearing a home after a death often turns up documents, photographs and keepsakes. If you'd like, we set such things aside so you can look through them before anything is taken away. This matters, because it's easy to overlook something important in a hurry.

How long it takes

A single room or a cellar we usually handle in a few hours. A whole flat takes a day or several trips, depending on how much there is. A large house after years of accumulation may take longer, but we always tell you honestly how long it will realistically take.

Legal disposal

We take waste to licensed collection points, not to a fly-tipping site. This matters, because the owner is liable for illegal disposal. With us you can be sure everything ends up where it should.
