How to transport fragile and valuable items safely?

Everyone has things they'd hate to see damaged: glass, electronics, keepsakes, paintings. Transporting such items isn't just carrying them from A to B — it's protecting them properly. Here's how we do it and how you can prepare these things yourself.

Glass and china

Wrap each piece separately in bubble wrap. Pack glasses and plates into sturdy boxes, layering them with paper or film so they don't touch. Stand plates upright — they cope with jolts better that way. Fill any empty space in the box so nothing shifts.

Electronics and AV equipment

Best transported in their original boxes, if you still have them. If not, wrap the item in bubble wrap and put it in a box with filling. We transport televisions and monitors upright, protected with blankets. Pack cables separately and label what goes with what.

Paintings, mirrors and flat items

Corners are the weakest point, so reinforce them. Larger paintings and mirrors we wrap in film and blankets, and always transport them upright, never flat. It's worth putting a layer of soft material between the glass and the film.

Valuables and documents

Jewellery, documents, cash and your most treasured keepsakes are best carried personally, in your own car. These are things that are hard to put a price on, and better kept with you at all times.

How we protect things

On site we protect furniture and equipment with moving blankets, stretch film and securing straps in the van. Fragile items we pack in bubble wrap. We make sure nothing shifts in transit, because most damage comes precisely from the load moving while driving.
